Adult orthodontics
Many adults are concerned about the appearance of their teeth.
For some, the crookedness of their smile can be a real handicap.
This is where we can help.
We see several adult new patients each week - some of whom won't smile, for fear of showing their teeth.

We are often asked whether adults can have their teeth straightened and the answer is a definite “yes”.
At Chapel Road, we have successfully treated many parents and even grandparents of our child patients.
Dr Horobin now treats as many adults as children.
Aesthetic appliances are used for all our adult treatments.
These are the quickest and most efficient of modern “invisible braces”.

Shown above is an example of the advanced type of fixed appliance that we are currently using - white brackets with the latest high technology white wires, giving an appliance which is almost invisible.
A treated case:-
Orthodontic treatment in adults is often rapidly successful and can make a real difference to the patient’s self esteem and outlook on life.
Our Experience
The treatment of adult cases has been an important feature of life at Chapel Road ever since we opened in 1987.
On many occasions, we have been asked to provide treatment for mothers of our child patients, who have seen what can be done to improve facial appearance through Orthodontics.
We are always pleased, without obligation, to advise adults as to the feasibility of treatment - you are never too old to have your teeth straightened.
We have successfully treated many patients in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's and quite a few in their 60's.
For an example of what we can do, see case history 3.
Do we do "Invisalign" or "Lingual Orthodontics"....?

Invisible Braces (Aligners) have become popular in recent years, as they are aesthetically superb and therefore particularly suited to adult treatment.
At Chapel Road Orthodontics we use the Orthocaps system which is a newer, German version of the familiar Invisalign / Clearstep type of appliance.

Lingual appliances are stuck to the inside of the teeth and are therefore not visible.
However, they are fundamentally flawed - the patient's speech can be badly affected and they are difficult to adjust and often very traumatic to the tongue.
They are also very difficult to use where the patient has a deep bite on the front teeth, as the lower teeth keep biting on the brackets behind the upper incisors.
I first saw lingual appliances in the early 80's, while training at the Royal Dental Hospital, London - a colleague elected to have them for her own personal treatment and I was dismayed by the fuss and bother that ensued.
At Chapel Road, we use the better, quicker and more effective (and still hardly visible) tooth coloured, fixed appliance system or Orthocaps. |
