NHS waiting list policy
Each year, Chapel Road Orthodontics receives approximately 2,500 new patient referrals from over 100 dentists in the Southeast London / West Kent area.
We currently have a fifty two week waiting list, however, waiting periods frequently change, please contact reception for current waiting times.
The way in which the Orthodontist decides whether NHS funding is available to the patient is by using a complex system of measurement called The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN).
We carry out enormous amounts of NHS orthodontic work - our Orthodontists start over 800 NHS treatment cases and see over 1,800 NHS new patients each year.
NHS referrals are placed are seen in strict order of arrival. The only exception to this is where, for genuine clinical reasons, the referring dentist considers that an urgent opinion is required - for example, where advice on the urgent extraction of teeth is requested.
NHS treatment, for routine cases, is available up to 18 years of age. However, we recommend that patients are referred to us before they are 17 years old, as you may have to wait for an appointment. Appointment dates vary from time to time, please contact reception for further details. Complex cases may be referred on to the hospital service, as necessary.
Patients of 18 years are offered a private assessment.
