The upper arch was quite narrow and the lower incisors a little forward with moderate crowding.
Treatment was commenced with an upper expansion appliance, of a type which we very commonly use at Chapel Road.
Over 3 months, the expansion plate widened the upper jaw, commenced alignment and improved the bite on the back teeth.
All four second premolars were then extracted by the patient's family dentist and upper and lower fixed appliances fitted. After a few months, the improvement was becoming obvious.
As is often the case, elastics were used to improve the relationship of the front teeth. In this case they pulled back on the lower front teeth, from the top, at the back
These photos below show the treatment sequence in the upper jaw. Note how the form of the jaw has changed, from narrow and pointed to well rounded.
After 18 months of treatment, the teeth were straight and had a good bite.
