New Type of Invisible Brace 22/6/08
We are about to start using the latest type of "invisible brace".
Many have heard of Invisalign or Clearstep but there's a new kid on the block - Orthocaps.
I'm an admirer of all things German so I leapt at the chance of trying this new system.
What's different about this system is that the aligners are made from a softer thermoplastic material, giving greater comfort and a better fit. |

The O2 Dome 11/5/08
Went to the O2 Dome for the first time last night - "Viva la Diva" - Kathryn Jenkins and Darcey Bussell - what a song and dance act - a Christmas present from my staff - lovely.
The Dome is truly amazing.
From where we were sitting, you could just about see the stage, which can't have been more than 2 miles away.
|
|

Apparently the Dome holds more people than the population of Canada, in a space the size of Mars.
Having been there, I can believe it. |

Tooth Whitening 7/5/08
Due, as they say to "popular demand", we now offer a professional tooth whitening service.
I've lost count of the number of time I've been asked recently whether patients can have whitening after their braces are removed.
So yes you can.
The procedure is simple and effective.
At your first visit you will have impressions taken for special trays to be made.
These are fitted the next week and the whitening material provided.
The trays are worn for two hours a day for one month, following which there should be a noticeable lightening of the teeth as measured on our before and after digital photos.
Simple, effective and only £495.
An ideal way to finish your Orthodontic treatment.
Contact reception for an appointment. |

How do all our improvements benefit you, the patient? 21/04/08
Simple - improved technology makes us quicker, better and more accurate in everything we do.
The Damon System is proving to be a big hit with patients (see the Damon Web Site). it's right up at the cutting edge of Orthodontics and we're pleased to be able to offer this very advanced treatment here at Chapel Road. |
|

Our practice management system enables us to be much more efficient
and our digital X Rays facilitate more accurate diagnosis.
This all adds up to a better treatment experience for you, the patient.

Technology, technology, technology 12/4/08
It's great to be able to report that our practice technology is now up there with the best.
Following the successful introduction of our Planmeca Digital X Ray machine, we now have the best available Digital X Rays, Digital Photos,Computer Hardware and Software.
. |
|
In short, our practice development plan has reached half way and I'm thrilled with the results so far.
I had a local Dentist in this morning, with his daughter. He was impressed to see our digital X Rays being taken and to see the results being e-mailed directly to him.
It's really great to feel proud of our kit and it's such fun using it all.
On to the next phase. |

Crufts 2008 10/3/08
Our Smooth Fox Terrier "Patch" did well again at Crufts this year, shown here in the ring by Helen.
He came 4th (reserve) in his class of 13 entries and a fun day was had by all.
Crufts never fails to amaze - it's huge - really huge - you can walk around for hours and still only scratch the surface. |

Practice Upgrade 28/02/08
We're currently in the middle of an investment programme in our facilities and equipment.
The Patients' Lounge recently benefited from new furniture and curtains. |
|
A digital X-Ray machine, to link into our new practice software, is due in a couple of weeks and other investments are planned too.
I decided some while ago that standing still just isn't an option, so we're aiming to have the best possible high tech kit by Easter, throughout the whole practice.
"Every day, in every way, we're getting better and better".

Practice Babies One Year On 9/2/08
It is hard to believe but it really is a year since our two most recent practice babies were born.
Many congratulations to Sammie (Reception) with Charlie and Natasha (Nurse) with Olivia and not forgetting Dads, Hayden and Matt.
What's lovely is that both Mums are clearly enjoying the experience of parenthood very much.
I'm pleased that they can both find time to return to work part time as they're both valuable members of our team.

A New White Brace 1/2/08
We're really excited about a new white brace that I've been using since December.
It is the In-Ovation C appliance from the American company GAC.
The great thing about this brace is it's a "self ligation system" like Damon and so it's fast but all white and therefore very aesthetic.
For the first time, I have a truly efficient white brace that doesn't stain yellow if you eat a curry - very useful for my patients.
We also have new white wires to go with it.
On the right is Lindsey, one of our receptionists, who was the first person to have it put on back in December.
Since then, it has become my standard adult brace and we're putting several on each week. |

Osteopathy Rules 26/1/08
Most people are aware that Osteopathy is the best treatment for a bad back but few appreciate the full scope what a skilled Osteopath can do to help all manner of illness.
I've recently become aware that Osteopathy is in fact, a whole system of medicine - not just a glorified massage.
There is something called "tensegity" which is a term that describes the way that one body cell communicates with and influences its neighbours. |
|
Not only that - each cell in the body influences every other cell in the body and this explains how a dysfunction in one organ can be treated by physical manipulation of another area.
For example, an Osteopath can manipulate your neck vertebrae and influence abdominal organs in the process.
Amazing.
I've seen this in action and it is astonishing how an Osteopath can cure numerous diverse physical ailments.
Personally, I'd have complimentary medicine as a first choice any time - at least it does no harm. |

A Pleasing Result 21/1/08
Before

Anna was concerned about her crooked top teeth, which spoiled her smile.
She did not want the lowers improving.
I used a white brace over a seven month period to align the upper teeth.
A fixed retainer (essential) was fitted at removal of the fixed brace.

Reflexology 14/1/08
I've a long standing fondness for complimentary medicine, as many of my patients will confirm.
Many a wart or cold sore has given way under the onslaught of "Dr Dave's" Homeopathic remedies. |
|
In recent months I have benefited greatly from the lovely therapy that is Reflexology.
It is gentle, effective and really, really nice too.
Christine Griffin of Meopham has worked wonders for various aliments and I can't recommend her too highly as a result.
I'd be pleased to pass on her details on request. |

We're 20 10/12/07
Hard to believe but it was 20 years ago today that the first patients were seen at my Chapel Road Orthodontic Practice.
Gosh
I'm now seeing children of those first patients.
Makes me feel as old as the hills
and glad that we're making such efforts to keep up-to-date.

New Technology 1/12/07
My word what a stressful week it's been for my staff (and me!). This was our first full week with our new Orthotrac Practice Management System.
This software is the best available for Orthodontic Practice and, with its superb imaging capabilities, will be of huge benefit to our patients and their treatment.

All part of our ongoing practice investment program. |

New Site 14/11/07
Today sees the launch of this new web site.
Several months of work and many hours slaving over the PC - hopefully it's an improvement.
|
|
A big thank you to Amy at Dental Design.
A huge improvement over the old site that evolved over the last 7 years.

New Stuff 28/10/07
Change is an everyday fact of modern life.
I've heard it said that modern man encounters more change in a month than our ancestors did in a lifetime.
So it is in Orthodontic practice.
This is a week of courses for me - a Damon day yesterday - Sunday to recover - and a day on another new appliance tomorrow.
|
|
|
It's a thrilling and exciting time to be in this job - no chance of getting bored.
Our organizational structure is changing too, in keeping with the new ethos of customer service.
I'm confident patients will see a positive change over the coming months.
As we (and the whole of British Dentistry) move more towards private practice, a good quality of customer service will become ever more important.
